LAGEEN TUBOPLAST LTD – How it all began…
1939 - In the beginning Kibbutz Yagur set up a local sheet metal shop to produce equipment for the new dining room. Later on, the sheet metal shop was engaged in producing various sheet metal products for the agricultural branches and for other uses around the Kibbutz (boxes, square tubs and troughs, etc). During that year the food concern ‘Tnuva’ wanted to store surplus milk and various milk products from winter to summer in barrels. The metal shop was employed for the work.
1940 - Name of the shop is “Tin Can Factory”. Manual work was replaced by mechanic press. Machines were purchased to manufacture large square cans for pickled products, oils and paints.
1948 - The new born Israeli state was fighting its Independence War. The factory prospers due to a big demand for pickled products, olives and biscuits by the Army.
1949 – With the aid of an American loan the first automatic production line was purchased in the USA.
1950 - A sum of 50 thousand Israeli pounds (a huge amount of money at the time) was used to purchase automatic machinery in France. A competition was held for a new name for the factory and the winning name was “Lageen” which means box in ancient Aramaic.
1963 - The company was established. Lageen was registered as a public limited company. In an agreement was signed with ‘American Can’ where 2/3 of the company was owned by Yagur and 1/3 by the American company.
1967 – LAGEEN TUBOPLAST is established for the production of plastic tubes, where the prime purpose is to find employment for the senior members of the Kibbutz.
1980- 1990 – LAGEEN TUBOPLAST purchased modern and fast production lines. Workers were becoming more and more skilled.
1998 – LAGEEN acquired the Alumit Company and all its manufacturing activities. LAGEEN TUBOPLAST as a tube division of LAGEEN began to produce aluminum tubes. A new division was opened for producing aluminum trays – Lageen Alumit LTD.
2000-2005 - LAGEEN TUBOPLAST purchased high speed production lines. The company develops capability to handle offset printing with up to eight colors and silk screen printing with up to six colors. Marketing efforts of LAGEEN TUBOPLAST directed to opening markets abroad pays off handsomely with a 300% increase of exports in only five years.
2008 - LAGEEN TUBOPLAST established manufacturing facilities in Minsk (Belarus) for production and selling plastic tubes on CIS territories. New plant is named Lean Lageen MirUpack JLLC and was formed as joint venture with Lean Group Company, local laminated tubes producer.
